The Pilgrimage Down Under
A few long weeks have passed since the annual pilgrimage to the Tour Down Under (TDU) and we’re still coming to terms with it being over. Lasting just six days, this event has a uniquely awesome feel. Not surprisingly, an estimated 50,000 cyclo-tourists from Australia and overseas descend upon Adelaide for a week of awesome riding, drinking beer, and chilling with the pro’s. On a personal level, the TDU has taken on a special place in our hearts. à BLOC officially launched in Australia last year at the TDU 2017. As such, this week has come to represent our birthday down under. Given the significant milestone, this week also serves as a reminder of how far we have come as a community. We were reminded of this several times throughout the week. Whether it was the riders that braved the heat (40°C+) to be part of the à BLOC Adelaide Hills Ride, or the legends that joined us at our Willunga Clubhouse as we watched Richie smash the Queen stage of the tour. We simply loved sharing a beer with all those that have come to be part of the à BLOC community.
An afternoon spin with friends
A particular highlight for us was the Curve Belgie Ride. The Melbourne based Curve crew are famous for their Belgie rides (they even named a bike after this ride). These rides take on whatever terrain the crew can find. Road, gravel, grass – you name it, they ride it. We teamed up with the crew to provide a real treat for those at the TDU – a Wednesday night Belgie finishing with some ice-cold beers and a view of the Adelaide skyline. Our two Dutch Founders saddled up for what they thought would be a ‘cruisy’ afternoon spin with mates. However, they forgot who they were riding with. Curve don’t do easy. This ride was short but steep, and full of dirt. Combined with the sweltering Adelaide sun this was no leisurely spin.
The ride finished at Sky, where we all took in the beautiful view of Adelaide. For us, this provided the perfect moment to reflect on what makes the TDU the best week of the year. Awesome riding, competition, spectacular views, and to top it all off – plenty of cold beers with mates while sharing war stories from the saddle. Thanks to everyone who came out to ride, chat, and drink beers with us. We loved sharing the ride with you all! If you missed out this year don’t stress. Planning for 2019 is well underway – it is going to be bigger and better than ever. And now if you’ll excuse us, it’s time for a beer.Allways be well stocked

Epic storiesWe ride together
We love stories from the peloton, they enrich our lives. Especially the ones of suffering and achievement. Stories are told when drinking à BLOC. We appreciate that a good story grows stronger over time. It’s one of the reasons we ride. Want to share your story?Contact us
